Knedlík – The CurtainKnedlík Collective is an initiative operating at UMPRUM as a mobile meeting place. They focus on themes such as sustainability, collectivity, degrowth, and the installation at Galerie NIKA marks the collective’s first exhibition project.
In the display case, the group placed a curtain reminiscent of those found in our grandparents’ homes, but made from tiny objects — small, hand-collected talismans that the artists have woven together through collaborative handiwork. Each artist gathered parts of this piece over time — sometimes these are items found on the street on the way to work, other times small objects discovered by the sea during travels.
An integral part of the work is also the time the artists spent together creating the Curtain. It is a defined period devoted to themselves, reflecting on their own work and the future directions the collective might take. The Curtain is thus imbued with this intangible yet equally important value. The artists approach sustainability not only through materials but also as sustainability of time, allowing themselves to pause and honor their current personal needs.
At the same time, the Curtain is an object that conceals the space behind it, inviting viewers to unravel the various layers of the installation.
